There are 28 doctors in the department of anesthesiology, including 11 senior anesthetists, 10 attending doctors, as well as an associate professor and a master candidate’s tutor in clinical anesthesiology. Nine staffs have master’s degree and 4 are the candidates of master’s degree.

Over 7,000 operations are performed every year, half of them are those with preoperative complications. The age of patients ranges from 12 to 95 years old. The department has also undertaken the work of ICU and emergency care.

In order to be in line with international standards, a project of reconstruction of the operating theatre was completed in 2002. Now, there are 20 brand new operation rooms here, boasting one of the first-class hospitals in China and the only one in Tianjin. Each operating room is equipped with a Dräger anesthesia machine and a Philips monitor which can monitor the depth of anesthesia (BIS), SpO2, ECG, PetCO2, iBp and Bp, anesthetic gas, body temperature, CVP, and so on. There is also a monitoring center in the operating theater to provide the central monitoring for the patients.

We have a blood gas analyzer, nerve stimulator, muscle relax monitor, ECG, defibrillator, Dräger breathing apparatus, acupuncture anesthetic apparatus, blood sugar analyzer, TCI pump, Olympus fibrobronchoscope, BIS monitor, and transfusion warmer.

Diagnosis and treatment of cancer pain started in 1994. We perform a Three-ladder therapy for the invasive treatment of cancer pain, such as nerve blocking, which increases the effect of treatment and decreases the side effect, and improves the patient’s quality of life.
