The department of interventional therapy was established in July 2001, and is one of a few clinical departments of its kind in China. There are 10 medical staffs in the department, among them 2 are Chief physicians, 3 Associate Chief physicians. Two therapeutists have the medical doctor’s degree, and 2 have the master’s degree in medicine. The room of catheter treatment is affiliated to the department. The main equipments include an ultrasound machine, a digital subtraction radiography (TOSHIBA), and an Argon-Helium cryotherapy system (AHCS, ENDOCARE). There are 46 hospital beds in the department and over 1000 cases of interventional operation are performed each year.

A variety of benign and malignant neoplasms can be treated here. The concept of therapy is monopathy, multidisciplinary and multi-techniques. The objective of interventional therapy is minimal invasion, high effectiveness and low toxicity.

The effect of the high-selective blood vessel particle embolism therapy for benign neoplasms, such as hemangioma (face, buccal cavity and liver) and hysteromyoma, and ultrasound-guided percutaneous puncture inactivation of drug in treatment of hepatic and renal cyst are prominent. For malignant tumors, TACE combined with an Argon-Helium cryotherapy system(AHCS)or Laser induced interstitial thermotherapy (LITT) in treatment of primary hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), hepatic metastasis and retroperitoneal tumors and carcinomas of the prostate treated by peculiar AHCS has also obtained satisfied results. Treatment for complications: tracheal stenosis, esophageal stenosis, tracheo-esophageal fistula, tracheo-pleural fistula caused by various kinds of benign and malignant tumors, duodenal stenosis, obstructive jaundice, superior vena cava syndrome, Budd-Chiari syndrome, and rachi-metastasis. The result of interventional therapy is quick and permanent.
