The department of pathology of Tianjin cancer hospital enjoys great fame and academic level in pathological dignosis of cancer. Since the foundation of the department, 250,000 cases for oncological pathology, 100,000 cases for cytological pathology and 100,000 consultation cases from all over the nation were diagnosed. Tianjin Medical University consultation center of oncological pathology was set up in 2000. Many famous pathologists gathered here for consultation with several hundred difficult cases in this center, which improve the diagnosis level greatly.

There are 19 staffs, among them 5 are professors and pathologists, 4 associate professors, 1 doctoral adviseror and 3 tutors for master degree candidates in the department. It undertakes the routine pathologic diagnosis, cytology diagnosis, puncture pathologic diagnosis and freezing slice pathologic diagnosis for each department of the hospital and consultation of tumor slices from other hospitals in Tianjin and other cities. Advanced technologies of diagnosis have been established, such as imunohistochemistry, FISH and cytogenetics of oncology.
