The Department of Pediatric Tumor was established in 1982 by Professor Jin Xianzhai, the pioneer of Chinese oncology. It is the first medical unit of pediatric tumors in China.

There is a professional multidisciplinary team in the management of children with tumor in our hospital, include many specialists of medicine, surgery, radiodiagnosis, radiotherapy, pathology, anesthesiology and nursing. Now there are two chief doctors, two vice chief doctors and three Masters of Medicine in the department. There are 24 beds in the ward. The department can offer many sophisticated diagnosis and treatment procedure for children and adolescent patients with various benign and malignant tumor, the average number of times for outpatients’ visit in the department every year was 2000 man-times, the amount of inpatients was 380 man-times and total amount of operations was 200 man-times. The malignant tumors treated in the department include malignant lymphoma, leukemia, various blastomas, embryologic tumor, head and neck tumor and bone and soft tissue sarcoma. The benign tumors include hemangioma, lymphangioma, various cysts and benign tumor in bone and soft tissue. The congenital malformations include congenital cholangiectasis, congenital megacolon, duplication of the alimentary tracts, myelomeningocele and the tethered spinal cord syndrome.
