The department of radiotherapy is one of the radiotherapy bases for cancer treatment in China and at present is the biggest department in Tianjin cancer hospital, which integrates the scientific research and teaching with clinical treatment.

The department possesses international first-rate imported radiation therapy equipment: 3 medical linear accelerator, 1 simulator, a two-dimensional and a three-dimensional radiotherapy planning system and 1 after-loading equipment, and three microwave machines used to treat the tumors localized in the whole body.

In 2000, the most advanced three-dimensional stereotactic radiotherapy system was installed and used for clinical radiation technology (so-called X's knife ). Now more than 700 cases have been successfully completed. At present there are 90 beds in the department. A total of 1000 inpatients have been admitted here and the number of out-patients amounts to 14,000 annually.

The technical level of the hospital is now in the leading position in China. The department possesses a team with a powerful and qualified technical force comprised of radiotherapists, nurses, physicists, engineers and set-up technicians. The staff in the department are now striving to cure the cancers with hyperthermia and other more consummate technology.
