The department of pharmacy, Tianjin Cancer Hospital (TCH), has a faculty of 41 staffs, including a chief pharmacist, 2 associate chief pharmacists, 9 in-charge pharmacists and over 30 pharmacists. Now a total of nearly 700 kinds of western medicine and more than 400 kinds of Chinese traditional and herbal medicines are available in the department.

The department carefully follows the law of drug administration and has a qualified management system. In 1992, the TCH established the “Pharmacy Management Managing Committee”, which became later a powerful supervisory organ to effectively improve the development of hospital pharmacy. In 1993, the Section of Clinical Pharmacy of the department was set up, where the special persons was put in charge of the clinical trial of new drugs related to treatment of cancer. At the same time, the drug consulting section was founded, which takes part in clinical rounds, and the monitoring system of drug reaction was set up. In 1996, the national base for the clinical trial of new drugs was founded, undertaking over 10 pharmaceutical experiments at different levels each year.

The department has a consummate quality control system for personal responsibility, valuable drug register for hand over and take over, error and accident registration, drug’s terms of validity, special and dangerous drug management, instrumental protection and maintenance, as well as hygiene and safety.
