Professor of Clinical Oncology, Chief Physician, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), Expert of Ministry of Personnel and Ministry of Public Health, with Prominent Contribution

Graduated from Tianjin Medical College in 1970, Prof. Hao has early or late held the posts of Deputy Director of Tianjin Cancer Hospital (TCH), director of TCH, director of Tianjin Cancer Institute and President of Tianjin Medical University. During the period of 1984 to 1986, he left for CENTOCOR Biotechnique Institute and New York Memorial Cancer Hospital for further study. He has been the Chairman of the Second Asian Association of Breast Cancer, Vice-chairman of the Oncology Branch, 4th and 5th Chinese Medical Society, Vice-president of the 5th and 6th Chinese Anti-Cancer Association, a member of International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), and member of American Association of Cancer Research (AACR), Chief editor of the Chinese Journal of Clinical Oncology, the member of the Editorial Committee of Support Care in Cancer, the visiting professor of Showa University and of Kurume University.

Prof. Hao has devoted himself to the treatment and research in clinical oncology for 35 years, with many innovative achievements, and has treated 6000 patient with various tumors.

 Prof. Hao has initiated the technique of Functional Intra-Jejunum Stomach Substitution. The method combined the characteristics of jejunal nervimotion, analyzed the reason of agastric syndrome, worked out the jejunal stomach substitute with the function of nervimotion, which alters the method of Roux-Y intersect jejunum and mesenterium and moderately ligates the two ends of the 35 cm jejunum conserving the function of nervimotion, then abutt it between the esophagus and duodenum, thus forming the Inter-Jejunum Stomach Substitute. After storage by the stomach substitute, the chyme passed into the jejunum through the duodenum and forms the normal physiological channel. The method considerably cut down the complication after total gastrectomy stomach, significantly increased the quality of life for the patients after total gastrectomy. The achievement was awarded the national Second Prize for Progress of Science and Technology.

Prof. Hao took the lead in the development of research into stem cell graft for treatment of solid tumors. Since 1992, he began his research on large dose chemoradiotherapy of solid tumors by the support of stem cell graft, created a standard regimen for solid tumors in the mobilization, collection, the process of freezing, revitalization and biological detection of the stem cell, as well as in overdose chemo-radiotherapy.

He has made many achievements in scientific research, and has been awarded the First Prize of the Chinese Medical Science in 2001.

Prof. Hao was the first in the world to undertake the research on anti-tumor specific peptide vaccine for treatment of digestive tract tumor. This was awarded the First Prize of Progress of Science and Technology in Tianjin.

Recently Prof. Hao Xi-shan, the academician of CAE, had the honor to win a second Award for Progress of Science and Technology at national level, two first awards, three second awards and seven third awards for Progress of Science and Technology at provincial level. As a well-known oncologist Prof. Hao has presided over six international conferences as the chair, such as the 2nd Asian Breast Cancer Conference, etc. He has been invited to present scientific reports in seven international meetings, e.g. the 34th All-Japan Conference of Digestive Surgery, WHO Toronto Meeting, the 16th Pan-Pacific Surgery Meeting in Japan. He has published more than 100 papers at home and overseas, eleven of them were covered by SCI. He presided over the compilation of Concise Oncology (1,160,000 words) and Abdominal Oncology (1,800,000 words).
