Teaching Ward Rounds of Stomach Oncology Department and Radiation Oncology Department

    In Sep. 2014, the stomach oncology department and the radiotherapy department launched teaching ward rounds.
    On the morning of Sep. 23, 2014, the stomach oncology department launched a teaching ward round entitled "Standardized Treatment of Gastric Cancer". First, the student Cai Mingzhi reported the disease history and carried out specialist physical examination, the residency Zhang Li supplemented more contents, the attending physician Director Wang Baogui corrected the irregularities during the physical examination process and did an exemplary demonstration. After the end of the physical examination, Director Wang Baogui led the students to carry out analysis and carry out intensive discussions on clinical manifestations, diagnosis basis and treatment principles by closely combining with the characteristics of the cases.
    On the afternoon of Sep. 26, 2014, the radiotherapy department launched a teaching ward round entitled "Esophageal Cancer". First, the student Zhao Xianzhi reported the disease history and carried out specialist physical examination, the residency Zhang Wencheng supplemented more contents, the attending physician Director Liu Ningbo corrected the irregularities during the physical examination process and did an exemplary demonstration. After the end of the physical examination, Director Liu Ningbo organize the students and relevant personnel to carry out intensive discussions on diagnosis basis and treatment principles of esophageal cancer from the perspective of radiotherapy by closely combining with the characteristics of the cases. Director Zhao Lujun supplemented the key knowledge points and leading-edge knowledge.
    During the two teaching ward rounds, relevant persons in charge of the departments attached great importance, made adequate preparations, closely combined with the characteristics of the cases and the to-be-taught knowledge, and led the students to carry out intensive discussions. During the processed of the two teaching ward rounds, the attending physician focused on mobilizing the students' emotions, asked targeted questions, and encouraged the students to speak up and actively participate in the discussions. It was generally reflected that, the teaching ward rounds could increase the students’ knowledge and make their clinical thinking much clearer. However, there were also some shortcomings during the teaching ward rounds: the basic procedures of teaching ward rounds shall be further standardized; there shall be more professional foreign language vocabulary; the teaching objectives shall be further condensed, and the cultivation of students' basic theory, basic knowledge and basic skills must be strengthened.
